Laser Safety Eyewear Frequently Asked Questions

What is the lead time for my order?

Most orders for Polymer products are shipped within 72 hours after receipt. If an item is not in stock, you will receive an order acknowledgement with the expected ship date. The lead time for custom orders will be quoted on an individual basis.

What is the warranty on laser eyewear?

All products are warrantied to be free from defects in materials and/or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Frames are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for a period of 5 years.

What is optical density or O.D.?

Optical density, or O.D. as it is commonly known, refers to the attenuation factor of the filter to the base 10. Therefore, a filter with an OD of 2 attenuates the laser by a factor of 10 to the 2nd or 100, an OD of 3 attenuates the laser beam by a factor of 1,000, an OD of 4 by a factor of 10,000.

What about femtosecond eyewear?

Some filters may exhibit saturated absorption when exposed to femtosecond laser pulses and may not afford adequate laser eyewear protection for those laser types. Please contact an RLI representative to be sure the eyewear you choose is correct.

What does VLT mean?

Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) is the amount of visible light passing through a filter, weighted for a response of the human eye, expressed as a percentage.

How do I clean my laser eyewear?

RLI recommends using mild detergent /soap and warm water, or our Optical cleaning kit to keep eyewear clean and in proper working order. Harsh chemicals such as acidic cleaners may harm the lens or frame over time. Do not use ultrasonic waves.

Does the eyewear meet impact safety standards?

RLI eyewear meets all ANSI Z87.1 impact standards.
